University of Mumbai’s Garware Institute of Career Education and Development (UM-GICED) is one of the best institutes which run professional courses and skill based education. It was established in 1984 with a generous contribution of visionary Padmabhushan Abasaheb Garware.  From its inception, UM-GICED is driven by the mission of imparting diversified education with knowledge and skills. Since then, we have progressed, evolved, and adapted continuously to the market demand, both in terms of quantity and quality, as well as, in a variety of courses offered.

To be in sync with the world economy and development, skill-based education has become a need rather than a choice. In the general overview, we find conventional education getting priority over vocational education which may result in widening of the gap between education and employability.

We, at UM-GICED, bridge the gap by offering vocational courses which are rich in development of skills, knowledge and have tremendous potential to increase employability. Our courses are sated with technical and academics skills and cater to the need for interpersonal skills. Each course here has originated from the need of various sectors taking cognizance of transformations of changing employability requirements. The courses offer field training wherever needed. We offer paid international internship for few courses to give a wider exposure to our students.

Our faculties, with their rich experience in academia as well as in industry, groom students to their best abilities. This combination of academic and industrial overview makes learning more relevant and interesting, not only theoretically but also empirically.

UM-GICED not only imparts skill based education to the students to cater the need of industries, but also creates leaders and entrepreneurs.

UM-GICED is well equipped with updated infrastructure like laboratories; may it be for Jewellery Design, Paint Technology, Environment Management or Film Management. Our library contains fantastic collection of reference books and journals on diverse subjects along with core subjects of various courses. Our campus is WI-FI ready and our ICT labs are state-of-the-art.
