Medical Transcription (MT) is an integral part of healthcare industry which comes under IT-enabled services. MT is a century-old profession in which professionals transcribe health records in electronic format dictated by physicians of various specialties and aid in healthcare database management of patients of clinics, hospitals, doctors, etc. Professionals who work in MT industry are called Medical Transcriptionists, better known as Medical Language Specialists for their knowledge of medical terminologies and English. This is an ever-growing industry because of its nature of work and never-ending job opportunities. MT industry is growing at a lightning speed with an urgent need to introduce standards for training and quality certification in Transcription Units. It is estimated that MT industry has potential to earn annual revenues of Rs. 10000 crore by 2020 and employ over 50,000 people. Therefore, GICED has decided to address the gap in the industry by training selected candidates in the field of Medical Transcription. The course is drawn by industry experts in line with requirements from US clients. Placement assistance in industry would be available after the course is completed. Heavy emphasis is given on practice. Classes are conducted by experts from industry as a visiting faculty. Students can take up the course on part-time basis and later on internship on a full time basis.
